Massanutten BIKE park
Construction of Macadamia Trail, with additions made to Crunchy and Creamy, as well as general maintenance and tread resurfacing on Crunchy and Creamy.
Racing downhill and enduro for over 15 years has given Sam the opportunity to ride the majority of the premier bike parks in the States. A relatively new phenomenon, bike park and downhill specific trails require the builder to understand risk management, large scale sustainability, and the evolution of future trends.
Ski resorts with bike parks require the trail builder to be attentive to:
Ski slope management
Potentially building around electric and/or water lines.
Thick scree fields or other challenging terrain to move through due to blasting or other large-scale construction leftovers from ski slope fabrication.
Risk mitigation.
Attention to intersections and minimizing high-speed interactions.
Experience with heavily trafficked, aggressively used gravity trails due to lift access.
Recognizing need for a commitment to ongoing maintenance - easing that burden with sustainability focused building of large-scale dirt exposures; berms/jumps/wide tread.
Utilizing sloping techniques, culverts, gravelling, and other ways to promote exceptional drainage.
